June 1998
ISM’s first website was hosted by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) at http://ecis.org/ismoshi/
It initially consisted of a number of pages each with a selection of tiny photos on each page. As download speeds were in a different league from the present, tiny images ensured a reasonable download time.
The web archive has captured only one page which is linked from https://web.archive.org/web/19980628154201/http://www.ecis.org/
25 SEPTEMBer 1998
The school has registered the domain name ismoshi.org and now uses that domain although it is still hosted with ECIS. The domain names ismoshi.com and ismoshi.net were also registered at the same time. The Tanzanian domain registry (tz) was not available at that time.
DECEMBER 1998
The early school website gave basic information about the school and application procedures, and was largely a site for viewing photos of school events. At that time social media barely existed and very few opportunities were available for viewing photos online, so this proved a popular use. 1998 collections included the international schools Swiming Gala, and drama productions “The Importance of Being Earnest” (Moshi Campus) and “Oliver Twist” (Arusha Campus). as well as “Christmas in Snowland” (Moshi Primary).
FEBRUARY 1999
This image shows the first archived view of our landing page in 1999. Very simple with a pale blue background.

The web archive shows some pages at https://web.archive.org/web/20001216010200/http://www.ecis.org/ismoshi/ although unfortunately the photos themselves were mostly not captured.
APRIL 2001
At some point before December 2000, the background was changed to a terrible mottled grey colour and more tiny photos were added to the landing page.

2002-03
Thankfully we ditched the grey background in 2002 and by December 2003 were ready for the school’s 35th anniversary the next year.

August 2004
The school’s needs now exceeded the space permitted by our free ecis hosting and the school sought a commercial hosting company in the USA. This page is the last home page hosted on the ECIS server ….

OCTOber 2004
.. which was soon replaced by the graphic below, after the site was migrated on 10th October 2004.

November 2004
Although hosted elsewhere, the site itself had changed very little.

DECEMBER 2007
A new design with a narrow page format was adopted in 2007. Unfortunately the image below is poor as not all images were captured.

OCTOBER 2010
Another new design hit in 2010. (Some images are also absent from the screenshot below.)

AUGUST 2012
By 2012, smart phones were becoming widely used and there was a need for websites to re-design to take this into account. This new site was a significant re-design, but was not responsive and instead included a separate mobile site.

JUNE 2013
In 2012/13, our marketing department set about rebranding ISM with a new logo and a prominent orange colour. We also needed a new website and, for the first time, a commercial company was employed to design a responsive website around the new branding and the development of ISMs (eg adventurISM, internationalISM). To do this they developed a bespoke theme using WordPress, and this was launched in June.

JANUARY 2019
As ISM began its transition to UWC East Africa, the domain names uwcea.org, uwcea.com and uwcea.ac.tz were registered in January 2019.
JUNE 2019
Moving away from the orange of ISM to the softer blues of UWC, a new website was designed in-house, again using WordPress but with a new theme. This was launched in June 2019 as an ISM website prior to becoming a UWC in August.

JUNE 2020
After August 2019, the same design persisted albeit with the name change to UWCEA.

DECEMBER 2020
After some menu changes, the current design was adopted in December 2020.

THE PRESENT
Minor changes to the site continue to take place frequently with changes to content and menus and additions of new pages and data.
