Residential

Homely and Friendly Campuses

Both UWC East Africa’s quiet and secluded campuses welcome residential students. The campuses offer an excellent environment for residential students which, combined with a high level of care from residential parents, helps to ensure that all have the maximum opportunity to achieve success and develop as leaders for the future. A Wi-Fi connection to the school network is available throughout the campuses and all secondary students have free internet access. We aim to make residential students feel at home in their residential houses on campus.

At our Arusha campus, residential life is offered for Diploma Programme students.

Students live in purpose-built residential houses known as Bomas: Jacaranda, Baobab, and Acacia. These spaces are inspired by traditional Maasai boma design, with rooms arranged around a shared central area that naturally brings students together.

Each Boma creates a close-knit community, where students live, study, and connect in a setting that balances shared experiences with personal space. Rooms are designed for comfort and functionality, with en-suite facilities and dedicated study areas, while outdoor living spaces provide room to relax and unwind.

At the heart of each Boma is a central gathering space that encourages interaction, conversation, and a strong sense of belonging, making residential life in Arusha both modern and deeply connected to its local context.

Moshi Campus Residential Experience

The Moshi campus offers a full residential experience across the Middle Years, and Diploma Programme.

Students can join the residential programme from M1 (around age 11), with opportunities to continue through to graduation.

With nine residential houses, Moshi provides a vibrant, multi-age boarding community where younger and older students learn from one another and grow together.

A large proportion of students on the Moshi campus are residential, creating a strong sense of community that extends well beyond the classroom.

Parents

Parents are particularly welcome and we would like to extend an open invitation to any parent who would like to visit the school, tour the campus, discuss their child’s needs, meet the students or enjoy a meal.

Students in Primary and in M1 to M4 may not leave campus unsupervised at any time. Students in M5 and the diploma classes may leave campus at certain specified times, but only if parental consent has been given and if permission has been sought from his/her boarding parent who will need to know the destination, reason and time of return.

Weekends

Weekends away from school are encouraged, whether this be a visit home, or overnight with friends, or even on one of the many Outdoor Pursuits, or other trips that occur throughout the year. At various intervals, overnight boarding excursions are also planned. For obvious reasons there needs to be some management of students leaving campus, and we thus ask parents to state the privileges they wish to allow their child on a comprehensive Parental Consent form (see below). Some families living in Arusha or near to Moshi may wish to invite their children’s friends to stay at the weekend. We will encourage this, but must receive the invitation by Thursday (before the weekend) to give us time to confirm all arrangements.
