FEASSSA – Update

16 Sep 2022

Dear Parents and Students,

Following on from my earlier bulletin about the FEASSSA Games, I was visited today by the Regional Commissioner’s office who explained to me some of the difficulties the organising team have encountered in hosting these games. As a result we have agreed to host the basketball matches between the hours of 9am until 5pm between the dates of Friday 16th September until Thursday 22nd September.

We are also hosting around 150 students from UWC Moshi for the 24 hours run which starts at 3pm today.

We have employed extra security personnel to manage the situation and FEASSSA athletes are aware that they are not to enter any other sections of the school apart from the basketball courts. I have briefed staff and students about this development and shared my overriding priority which is one of safeguarding. I would extend that appeal to all community members to remain vigilant and help any visitors who seem lost or in the ‘wrong’ areas of school.

I see no reason why we cannot enjoy and celebrate a huge few days of sport on our campus and really hope these young athletes, who arrived in Arusha after long bus journeys from as far away as Kigali and Kampala, can enjoy their basketball. Let us do what we can to make them feel welcome in spite of the organisational hiccups. I shall be on campus for the next 24 hours, as will our Campus Leadership Team.

Thanks for your trust and understanding.
Phil
