La Merveilleuse Equipe de Quebec!

The ISM delegation to Quebec visited a multitude of historical sites in their city tour.

A short newsletter this week, as we get back to work with the terrific challenge of preparing to reopen in August as the United World College of East Africa. Teachers and Administrators have been working feverishly to prepare new documents, policies and procedures in anticipation of the new arrangement. These will be shared with you in due course as they attain approval, but rest assured that we are on track for an exciting new dawn on August 13th!

Of course, the talk of the first week back has not ONLY been UWC. Our intrepid Quebec adventurers have returned with fabulous tales of maple syrup and ice hockey and all things snowy and cold!

FInally, dont forget that MAP tests resume this week for P4, 5 and 6 and M1-3. MAP, or the Measure of Academic Progress, is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child’s academic growth.

The ISM Rhinos U13, U15 and U19 Touch Rugby teams turned out at Arusha Campus today to take on the NTAA teams. In scorching conditions our students played tremendously well and there were some eyecatching displays from all our representative teams. Many thanks to our coaches and to Mr Ratsakatika for a tournament which was a model of organisation.

We arrived at school on Monday to find a huge accumulation of rubbish had been swept over the fields opposite school and against our fence. The P1 and P2 children noticed this and suggested that we arrange a huge litter clear up during the week. So on Wednesday we did just that. The picture above shows P1, P2 and P4/5 sorting the collected litter into recycling grpups. A terrific initiiave and effort by everyone.

AT LAST! We have a small number of Little Shop of Horror DVD’s which are on sale at Main Reception. Please see me or Caroline if you woiuld like to buy a copy.

M5 students have submitted their ePortfolios and are now preparing for their on-screen examinations in May. Next week, they will have mock-exams in the IT Lab every day from 8 to 10 am. Students are reminded to bring their headphones, pens and pencils and leave any other materials in their locker during the mock-examinations. For students whose mother tongue is not English (or if English is not their best language), the use of a translating dictionary is allowed for non-language exams.

As additional preparation, students are encouraged to continue completing past on-screen exams in their own time. During the on-screen exam period from May 14 to May 24, M5 students will have a modified timetable where some classes will be used as study-blocks. The modified timetable will be sent to M5 students and parents shortly.

Summit magazine is going digital-first and cutting down on print editions as the school takes steps towards reducing wastefulness.

The DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) is an internationally recognized diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates in the French Language.  The DELF is open to non-native French students who would like their French skills to be recognized for personal or professional purposes.

UWC humanitarian project competition: your chance to make a positive change in Tanzania!

As we are becoming a UWC, our school is invited to participate in a service project initiative called ‘Aurora’ which is opened to the 17 other UWCs around the world.
Project proposals must address a concrete humanitarian concern relevant to our geographic location (i.e. the concern must have an impact on our local communities or environments). Humanitarian concerns may include, for example: child homelessness/orphans, women’s health/FGM, the refugee crisis etc. 
The top 3 project proposals will be funded in order to make them happen (from 500 USD up to 4,000 USD). Finalists teams will be invited to UWC Dilijan in Armenia in October 2019 to present their proposals and receive fundings for their project.
The activities or actions proposed as part of the Project should address the identified humanitarian concern and propose concrete steps to reduce or eliminate it from the community in concern. Projects must be student-initiated and student-led in a team of 4. Projects may be a completely new project, or be part of an already existing initiative such as a SA or CAS activity.

My name is Gabriel Kalamata with so many years of experience of teaching practical of piano and theory of music.
I follow the ABRSM [The Exam Board of Royal Schools of Music] curriculum from UK whereby students can learn music theory and practical piano lessons from grade 1-8.
Piano students can take part of ABRSM exams once per year.This not compulsory its up to the decision of the student.
Here is time available at the moment for piano lessons.
Monday 2;30-3;30 pm
Tuesday 12;-10;00 pm,3;00- 4;00 pm
Wednesday 2;30-3;30 pm
Thursday 3;30-4;30 pm

Fee for the lesson of 30 minutes is Tshs 20000 and 40000 for one hour lesson[payable at the beginning of the term].
