Arusha Campus Newsletter 26th May 2019

Ben, Magnus, Ravi and Cody stride into Arusha Campus upon successful completion of their Duke of Edinburgh International Award Bronze Adventure. Well done boys! Terrific accomplishment.

Dear Parents

Anikaa Aggarwal, former Arusha Campus student, beams with deserved pride as she floats out of the Graduation Hall at yesterday’s marvellous graduation ceremony on Moshi Campus

Congratulations to Bob Cofer and the whole of his team for a splendid Moshi IB DP Graduation ceremony in Moshi yesterday. Fifty two graduands walked off the K-Hall stage to start the next adventure of their careers outside the walls of Moshi Campus! Best of luck to you all.

Yesterday and today has been busy on the slopes of Mt Meru too. Eight particpants of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award set off in the rain on Saturday morning heading for checkpoints manned by Mrs Bowen, Mr Olivier and Mr Tyler. Conditions were simply dreadful but all eight plodded on successfully to the halfway camp where they somehow lit fires and bedded down for the night. By 4.45pm this evening they had made it all the way back to Arusha Campus. Well done Caedmon, Chloe, Cody, Flavia, Devansh, Magnus, Ravi and Ben for making it through. I am certain that these students will pioneer the first Silver Award expedition from ISM next year, their spirit is amazing!

Weekends like this, full of events described above as well as the sporting exploits of our Primary students at Kennedy House, make us understand how proud we are to be part of ISM.

Phil

Flavia, Caedmon, Chloe and Devansh look forward to ditching the Duke of Edinburrgh backpacks as they stagger in to Arusha Campus this evening!

From the Primary and Secondary Schools

Juma is coming! This week Arusha has been alive with the sound (and sight) of Juma. PYP students have been practicing for the big production and there was even a surprise visit to the campus by some of the characters from the musical performance. Make sure you keep Tuesday 11 June free, so you can join the fun.

This week has been busy on all fronts. Our U9 and U11 rugby teams were at Kennedy House on Tuesday and came second in both age groups, in very exciting final games. Our M3 students have been taking part in their IDU trip with Moshi at Makumira; enhancing their performance skills and Swahili. Thanks to all the staff and students who have made these events so successful.

Next week our M5 students will be entering the real world in their work experience week; this follows the successful completion of their MYP onscreen examinations – congratulations and we wish them well at work. On Friday 7 June we will celebrate their achievements at the M5 Ceremony, which will take place at 15.00.

While the M5s have finished their exams, the D1s are about to start their end of year exams. These begin on Tuesday 28 May, for which we wish them luck and success.

Hope you have a great weekend,

Darren

NTAA Cross Country

Siri shows characteristic grit and determination to flay the field and finish a fabulous third place in the Braeburn Cross Country event, last weekend. Well done Siri!

Netball Champions!

The victorious U9 Netball Team celebrate at Kennedy House on Saturday

On Saturday morning a rather waterlogged bus pulled out of Arusha Campus heading for Kennedy House to take part in the Under 9 and Under 11 Netball Competition. By the time they returned several hours later the same bus was rocking with songs and laughter as BOTH teams came back as champions!

Jess (right) scores one of an amazing individual 24 goal haul to seal the overall victory for Arusha Campus!

Well done to Star Coaches Caroline and Hala (M5) for engineering such outstanding performances. Also we are very pleased for Mr Ratsakatika who was there yet again to support his coaches and teams and who deserves this victory as much as anyone. Thanks Dave, Caroline and Hala and also to our supportive parents who went along to support.

Under 9 and Under 11 Rugby

Tristan takes on the massed Arusha Meru defence during this week’s rugby festival in Usa River.

The teams travelled to Kennedy House to play on the hottest day we have seen in the last two weeks. Both teams won their group and went to the finals. Unfortunately they lost on a golden try. However the performances were outstanding. Well done to everyone
