Arusha Campus Newsletter 14th June 2019

Last week’s spectacular perfomance of ‘Juma and Friends’ was an instant hit!

Dear Parents

I have just received the news that we will be officially known as UWC East Africa from August 1st! There was some doubt about what our official name was going to be but that has been confirmed and we can now press ahead with the task of converting all our branding such as websites, leterhead, t-shirts etc. Quite a task, but one which we are relishing as the UWC transition gathers momentum.

Last week we were treated to a magnificent Primary Production in the form of ‘Juma and Friends’. The show was written and produced by Miss Liz with the help of Mr Tyler, Miss Katrina and the faithful band of Chloe, Magnus and Cody. Thank you so much for your work which all came together beautifully.

It’s a time of year when we start to think about our goodbyes to various people who are leaving the school. We will have more of that in our final newsletter of the academic year next week. It will be a busy winter here at Arusha Camous as finishing touches are put to the residential houses and to the renovations that we are putting in place on campus.

The PTA met earlier this week to put in place some of the spending of the funds raised at the International Festival. As promised, these funds will be spent on three new drinking water filters for the school.  A special thank you to Guustaf who has been our PTA Chair this year and led such a marvellous team so brilliantly.

Finally a reminder that next academic year will start on Tuesday 13th August.

I wish everyone the best for the final week of term and hope you have a pleasant weekend.

P6 reach a Milestone

The P6 Class arranged an evening meal out to celebrate their last days as Primary students

Friday Sharetime

The Primary School were treated to yet another masterclass of a show by Miss Ann-Joyce’s swahili sharetime this week. Here Lwitiko the Beggar leads Noa the Turtle across stage.

The State of our Rivers

Miss Amanda’s P6 Class took to the river channels of Arusha today to look at the effect that our city has on water pollution. The class visited three sites on the same River Naura. They compared the water quality at a site high up on the slopes of Mt Meru above the city, with two more sites in the city and toward the south of the city as the Naura winds its way out on to the Maasai Steppe. Here they are pictured (above) at the point the Naura flows beneath the Dodoma Road. Apart from obvious signs of pollution, the most disturbing news came from an old man we met who told us about how the river level has fallen dramatically since he was a little boy over 60 years ago.
