The Peaks Discovery students (above) wind their way down the peak of Kilomeni in Eastern Tanzania this weekend. 

There are a number of important decisions that have been made in the light of the recent change of date for the last day of the semester. Perhaps the most important is the fact that our Secondary Production will now take place two days earlier than planned. See poster above. The students and Mr Ronald and his staff team have worked so hard to prepare for this production. To that end I would like to put in a special appeal to please try and come along to support the show. It’s wretchedly disappointing for the cast and support crew to know that the date has changed so the best we can do is come along and clap and cheer for what is sure to be an outstanding evening of entertainment.

The OP Team met this morning to discuss the upcoming Reefs Adventure Scuba Diving trip. Please note that the plan is to continue as scheduled, with the trip departing on Friday 28th November and returning on Tuesday 2nd December.

Unfortunately, the early school closure means we are no longer able to run the Mindfulness trip on 7th December and this trip has been cancelled.

We are also no longer able to run the Reefs Discovery trip to Fish Eagle Point scheduled for 3–7 December. We appreciate that this is disappointing. The OP team is in communication with FEP regarding possible rearrangements in the New Year, and further information will be shared in due course.

Finally, there has been a change to the sign-up process for the Semester 2 Mount Meru trip. If you would like to be considered for the trip, please make sure you sign up on Life before 26th November. You will not be able to sign up after this date.

The last day of school will be a full day and end of quarter assembly will be at 1.40pm

The Climate Connection Land Rover (above) made me very excited earlier this week – read more about it on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/climate_connection_africa/

The electric Land Rover pictured above visited our Environmetal Systems and Societies classrooms this week. We are learning about climate change and the impact our activities are having on the atmosphere at the moment. And so Marjon and her Climate Connection travelling workshop was very timely. I even got to drive it and compare the emissions with some other Land Rovers!

Learning provocations can come in many different forms as evidenced in the montage above.

The beginning of a unit is always an exciting time in our classrooms. We start with a provocation to generate curiosity in our units.
Provocations are open-ended activities that are carefully chosen to encourage students to explore, ask questions, and think creatively. These “invitations to play” can be simple arrangements of household or natural items like a tray of water with different containers, a collection of natural objects for a discovery table, or a set of dress-up clothes for a dramatic play area. The goal is not a specific outcome, but to spark curiosity and provide an opportunity for self-directed learning and problem-solving.

The  P1/2  went on a field trip to Auwsa( Arusha Urban water Supply) centre. They learnt alot about water supply and got to witness how water is stored and the process it goes through distribution and treatment. A big thank you to Baba and Mama Mathies to make this possible.

Fish a Nine in Maths Miss Katy!

We like to keep ourselves busy in the MYP, and this week was no exception. Alongside their regular classes, M5 students shared their Personal Project progress with the M1–4 groups. Ms. Katy’s M2 Maths students also transformed their classroom into a lively casino for the M4 Maths classes as part of their Probability unit (above and below). Visiting on Friday, I was reminded that Maths can be both exciting and very loud, as cheers broke out with every exchange of money.

The week was equally energetic on the sports field, with MYP teams competing in football, basketball and netball against other schools. To top it all off, some MYP students and teachers spent their weekend on Outdoor Pursuits trips; a Peaks expedition to Kilomeni and a Rides adventure at Simba Farm. An active and inspiring week all around!
