We are into the middle of April as we prepare to start the last stretch of the school year. The D2 students will be having their last week of classes before their study week and exams and the M5 students are only a week behind them.
On Friday our D2 students will be having an assembly to mark their last day of classes to be followed by the traditional clap out. Parents you are welcome to join us for the clap out. This will be an emotional week for them as they also have the Teacher Appreciation dinner on Wednesday and the Prom on Friday.
We have a few things happening this coming week as you can see below. Please also watch our calendar on the website for happenings on campus.

Diploma News
This is a celebratory week for the D2 students as it’s the last week of classes. We have the Teachers’ Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday night, which is an opportunity for the D2 students to thank their teachers. On Thursday evening, we have the final D2 pool party and Friday will be the final assembly, clap out and prom. Parents, Ujas and members of the community are welcome to join us for the final assembly which starts at 10.30 in K-Hall.
We are delighted to invite all D2 families to join us for the Graduation Ceremony on 23 May at 3:00pm. This special occasion marks the culmination of our students’ hard work, growth, and achievements over the last few years.
It promises to be a joyful celebration as we come together to honour the Class of 2026. We warmly encourage families to attend. Students are limited to 3 tickets per family and these will be available for collection from the front office next week.

PYP News
I hope everyone enjoyed the break. The end of the last quarter was so busy that I think we were all ready for a chance to rest and recharge. In the space of 2 weeks, alongside our regular classes and clubs, we had the EC/P1 hike, the KCMC bottle-filling workshop, Student-Led Conferences, the P6 PYP Exhibition, the Swahili Primary Gathering, PYP Movie Night, and a Pizza Party. See below for a short snapshot of what will be happening in the classrooms the first week back. Classes will resume at 7:30am on Monday, 13th April and we look forward to seeing the children back on campus then. Please note that Monday and Wednesday of the coming week will be spirit days for the primary school (see the flyer earlier in this newsletter). On Monday the children are invited to dress in yellow clothes and on Wednesday they can dress as a teacher. An email has been shared with parents. We are not dressing up on Tuesday or Thursday as those themes are harder to join in with.
You will see from the new teacher biographies below that Sarah Vrontamitis and Manal Dahwish will be joining the primary team in August. Welcome to both. Details of class configurations and which teachers will be teaching which grade levels will be shared nearer the end of the quarter.
EC/P1
We are looking forward to hearing all about the adventures you had over the break. We will use our first week back to settle in to class routines and review our essential agreements.
We will also wrap up our minibeast unit as we get ready to share our work in the following week.
P2/3
Q3 wrapped up with lots of learning and fun. The class did a wonderful job at the Kiswahili Gathering! We also had a great time hosting our parents at the Conferences. Everyone is excited about the focus on Endangered Animals when we return.
P4/5
Many thanks to Asahi’s cousin and friends who visited our class just before the break to lead a Japanese cultural presentation. The children enjoyed themselves a lot! We will be continuing with our unit of inquiry about buildings, focusing on the purpose of the building, the design and the materials used. We are planning some interesting trips over the next few weeks to support the children’s learning. In maths we will be concentrating on fractions.
P6
We are going back to a much-needed routine, which means the P6 classroom is no longer open for lunch and break. Homework will begin in the second week back, and we’ll be doubling up on Math. I’m looking forward to seeing some numbers again. More information on Quarter 4 will be communicated towards the end of the first week back!

Residential Life
Dear UWCEA Community,
Welcome to Quarter 4!
This is the quarter of lasts: the last dorm dinner, the last class, the last exam. And, before we know it, the last day of school.
But before we get caught up in the busyness of it all, the exams, the packing, the goodbyes, I want to invite you to pause and sit with what that means.
Because lasts have a way of clarifying things.
They remind us what actually mattered. Not the grades, not the drama, not the small grievances we carried longer than we should have, but the people. The conversations that ran way past midnight. The inside jokes that only make sense here. The teachers who saw something in you before you saw it in yourself. The friendships that were forged in this particular Moshi campus environment, where you cannot escape each other, and so you learn, eventually, to truly know each other.
So as we move through this final quarter, I want to challenge you to be intentional about it:
Reflect: Where did you grow this year? What surprised you about yourself? Connect: Go and have the conversation you have been putting off. Sit with someone you have drifted from. Tell people what they mean to you, don’t assume they know. Forgive: Let go of whatever you have been holding onto. Not for them, but for you. You don’t want to carry it out of here. Be present: These last weeks will move fast. Don’t sleepwalk through them.
And to begin it all, we have a week full of moments worth showing up for:
Spirit Week runs Monday, 13 – Friday, 17 April. Watch for Student Government emails on the day-by-day schedule.
Monday 13/04 – Holi celebrations on the pitch at 4:30 pm (in place of dorm activities)
Tuesday 14/04 – Dinner on the Green at 6:00 pm, with a live concert from the school band
Wednesday 15/04 – Teacher Appreciation Dinner at 6:00 pm in Rafiki
Thursday 16/04 – D2 only pool party
Friday 17/04 – D1 and D2 Final Assembly and Clap Out, followed by Prom in the evening
We especially hope to see you at Holi on Monday, dinner on Tuesday, and the Final Assembly and Clap Out on Friday. These are not just events on a calendar; they are the memories you will reach for years from now.
Make the most of what’s left. You’ll be glad you did. Adnan Mackovic – Head of Student Life

The next step will be the completion of ePortfolios for students registered for eAssessments. Exam schedules and revision materials were shared with students before the break to support structured preparation and ensure they return ready to focus and perform at their best.
M5-D1 Parents Online Meeting On April 21st, we will also be hosting an online meeting for M5 parents via Zoom at 4:30 pm. This session will be led by me, Ms. Catherine Dowie (Head of Diploma), Mr. Cofer, and Ms. Elizabeth Eldger (University Counselor).
The meeting will focus on supporting families through the transition into the Diploma Programme, outlining next steps, and providing an opportunity to ask questions and gain clarity on expectations, pathways, and upcoming processes. An email will be sent out with the link and details.

Beach Ultimate in Kenya
Over the break our U19 Ultimate Frisbee team embarked on an epic journey to Diani Beach, Kenya to join the annual Kenyan Feast Ultimate Beach Tournament. Both Arusha and Moshi campuses sent teams to this event. There were 11 teams from 4 different countries and 156 players battling it out for Feast XVI championship. UWCEA Moshi played so well and gained a lot of experience. Faced with a challenging pool, our team managed to score points against tough competition. They lost 4 games and won 1 game against African United. The hosting teams were very complimentary about the level of ultimate that Tanzania is producing. The next tournament will be held on the 16th of May in Arusha at the Kilimanjaro Ultimate Grass Tournament.

Workshop, Restore and Restoration
The student teams in the Workshop, Restore and Restoration Service have worked for 11 weeks to refurbish and deliver old playground equipment to a community Daycare Center in Moshi. Our students exemplified true project-based and service learning, from team management, to sanding, priming, painting and installing 4 enormous playground apparatus. The installation was particularly challenging mixing half a ton of cement manually, it would not have been possible without the help of our determined 5 student service teams (32 students) and 6 of our school campus auxiliary staff. Now all that’s left is to celebrate the success of completing the task we had set for ourselves, with a celebration with the young students to whom this playground was made for. Please join us on the 17th of April at 14:00 for the grand opening of the new playground at the Daycare Center.
