Upcoming events

Fri !2th Sept – 24 Hour Run on Moshi Campus

Sat 13th Sept – Move It Day at Arusha Campus

Dear Parents

Great bike ride this morning (above) with Mr Stephane. There were about 25 kms covered. Strong cyclists. Thank you all for a nice and sunny Sunday morning and a special thank you again to Hussein for keeping us safe all the way in the Land Cruiser.

A shorter newsletter this week to reflect the 4 day week we just had. As I write the Model United Nations conference is winding down after an intense three days of debating. More to come in next week’s newsletter.

We have the 24 Hour Run to look forward to next week. No less than 164 students and staff from Arusha campus will head over to our Moshi Campus for this overnight extravaganza. Come along, there is room for everyone. Its a fun, social event which aims to raise funds for future scholarship students which in turn enriches our school and makes it everything we want it to be!

Have a super Sunday!

PYP News

As I walked around the school this morning I was impressed by the range of activities happening around the school. See montage above. Writing in Swahili, writing a reflection from a speaker, maths using Uno cards, waiting our turn and creative art ideas. Thank you to our fanfastic teachers!

Car Park Safety
Please reduce your speed as you enter the school premise and drive slowly around the car park. Many children are crossing the carpark and we don’t want an accident to happen.
Please also remember…..

Seatbelt and Seating Position Safety

Back seat is best: Children under 13 should always ride in the back seat.

Airbag protection: Airbags can seriously injure or kill a child, so they must ride in the rear to avoid this risk.

Proper belt use: Teach children to use the entire seatbelt, including lap and shoulder straps, and never to tuck the belt under their arm.
A child’s body can overheat rapidly, even on a cloudy day or with windows down, if they are left waiting for you in a car. Always check everyone is out of the car before locking the car.

If there is an unused seatbelt within a child’s reach, buckle it to prevent them from playing with it.

Teach children not to play in or around vehicles to prevent accidents
Always check behind your vehicle before backing up to avoid incidents.

MYP Round-up

Pictured: Ms Coralie with her M1–3 French Phase 3 class, enjoying a lesson outdoors on a beautiful September day.

The ability to communicate in more than one language is a key aspect of international education and an important part of the Middle Years Programme. Alongside English Language and Literature, all our MYP students learn an additional language.

In M1–M3, students study both Swahili and French, developing their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. Students are placed in phases that match their level of proficiency, ensuring that each learner is supported and challenged appropriately.

In M4–M5, students choose either Swahili or French to pursue in greater depth, with placement again based on proficiency. This year, we are especially excited to introduce Swahili not only as a Language Acquisition course but also as a Language and Literature option for M4 students. Recognising that many of our students are already speakers of Swahili, this new course provides them with the opportunity to strengthen their skills in a way that values their linguistic and cultural background. From next year, this option will be extended to both M4 and M5 students.

Move It Day!

We are having our annual Move It Day! As many Arusha students are not able to travel to Moshi for the 24 hour run, M3 and M4 are organising an event here so we can join in the fun and raise money for the Endowment Fund! Last year we raised 800,000Tsh, and we are hoping to beat that this year!

Move it day will be on Saturday, September 13th, and we will be offering many different activities, from a cozy puzzle corner, to football and volleyball, to the big game at the end! This year we are also hosting activities for younger Primary students, including a sand castle building competition.

You can take part in teams of up to seven – students, families, and teachers are all welcome. P5 and P6 students can be part of a team with adult family members or older siblings. P4 and younger must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. This could be in a team or they can come along at any point and join in any activities they wish to.

It’s only 5,000 Tsh per person to join in on the day, with a huge variety of snacks, baked goods, and sodas available at the bake sale, along with a delicious lunch for just Tsh8,000 at noon. This year we also have a tombola with exciting prizes.

Gather your team, bring the energy, and be part of the excitement. A Google Form will come out for team sign-ups so watch your emails!
